Evan McHenry (b. 1998) is a non-binary interdisciplinary artist based in Minneapolis, MN. Their practice centers on investigating the unjust hierarchies present in society and the negative impacts they impose on social and ecological domains. Through the use of both raw material and objects found scrounged in back alleys and out of the trash, as well as traditional and new processes such as casting, projection // sound, McHenry combines both urgency and a deep sense of care to create sculptures and installations that explore notions of materiality, transformation, and ephemerality in aid of deconstructing and illuminating said hierarchical structures. Their work is inspired by theory // philosophy, poetics, their close-knit punk community and anarchism. In addition to their fine arts practice, they are also a prolific zine maker and poet, with their work chosen for the 2023 MCBA New Editions showcase. When not creating, you can probably find them in a sweaty basement moshing with their friends, riding bikes, reading, or next to // in a creek.
